Firstly I apologise for the sound quality. It was a gorgeous day when we recorded this so we decided to record out in the back garden. The series didn’t present itself as a feminist show and yet discussed women’s issues with wit and intelligence in a non-preachy way. And it was funny. It was a comedy about and for women that wasn’t about the domestic or the family. It wasn’t a fridge comedy. Most events took place in public rather than in the domiciliary. We wonder whether those responsible for creating the movie franchise did not realise that the people who would be going to see it would be the very people who watched it in the first place and therefore would not require exposition or cardboard cutouts.

A long overdue podcast that was recorded back in mid-November. I’ve been busy in work which hasn’t helped the added evening tiredness but better late than never. However it turns out its casting is timely as we invited our velvet-voiced guest Alan Costello on the show as Rosemary had noticed him tweeting about Glee which finally started in Ireland with a special preview on e3 last night. A long overdue podcast. Here’s hoping it will be the only overdue thing in my life in the upcoming months. Even taking into account Rosemary‘s recent cold and my trip to Cork which are now like distant memories this is still late. I reckon my “condition” is taking its toll on my concentration levels and energy and I just don’t have enough of either to this on a weekly basis. Also Rosemary is, as she regularly points out, a very busy and important person. A lush more like!

Just in case you are wondering about the tardiness of this cast I had a week from hell since this as my computer went belly up. I never realised I needed so much software to make this happen but there you go.

01m 19s Rosemary‘s weekly TV News Roundup kicks off with the Big Brothewir Blast! Rosemary pips either Sophie or Charlie to win. I’m shocked that Big Brother broke the rules and gave the howsemaytes magazines. In other news the line-up for Strictly Come Dancing has been announced and includes Natalie Cassidy of Eastenders fame, Jo Wood who is Ronnie’s ex (??? I have no idea either but I was neither nominated for (Rosemary) nor awarded (Rapture) a Pop Culture gong) and Martina Hingis of tennis fame. In other news, X-Factor has restarted and apparently people are none

08m 24s Rapture Ponies talks Harpers Island which sounds extremely gory and as I comment at 12m11s sounds a bit like Twin Peaks. I think my gushing about Special Agent Dale Cooper happened before we started recording. The horror on the faces of the younger ladies when they realised who I was talking about… Sigh.

14m 57s My next choice of telly viewing I was reaching way too low agewise for the ladies or maybe I was just getting up too early. Subjected as I am to children’s TV of a Saturday and Sunday morning I sometimes put the foot down and say “No more Peppa Pig or In the Night Garden, no more. Let’s watch the Penguins of Madagascar!” Love it!

Well now there’s a treat for a novice podcaster! iTunes has included The Rosie View in their New and Notable section. Yes I know we’re on their third page. Yes I know it’s in a sub-category. Let me enjoy the little pleasures in life.

I also thought you might be interested to know how many listeners we are picking up after just six shows and some other statistics. We have 15 subscribers, 9 of whom are using iTunes, 2 of whom are email subscribers so it pays to offer lots of options. Since we started tracking in July we have had 162 unique visitors (hello!) with nearly 1/4 of traffic coming from Twitter. Sorry to disappoint the person searching for the “garda helicopter” but I think the person searching for “historical intellectual giants” was probably the most disappointed!

Why am I telling you all of this? Well part of my motivation for podcasting was because it was one aspect of social media that I hadn’t tried myself. An essential part of any experiment is sharing the results and as you, dear readers and listeners, are for all intents and purposes, participating, it’s only fair to share.

A really long show this week – I blame the guards. We were interrupted by the garda helicopter and had to halt recording but I forgot to stop the clock so we lost the run of ourselves entirely.

Secondly we have our very first guest. Catherine Flynn works in advertising and “Loves music/film/beauty/food at all times.” She is also a regular contributor to Beaut.ie and was a brilliant and coherent first guest (unlike the presenters…) Having never met her before in our lives, we were a little nervous to begin with but I think this is our giddiest show yet! I try to keep things serious but I fail.
