Episode 5: Our first guest & my Embarrassing Cousin
I had a bit of a technical hitch this week and had to reconstruct the first part of the podcast from the raw files so I’m afraid the times below are relative but knocked out by about a minute! Sorry!
This week’s pod introduces two new fun features. Firstly Rosemary does a TV news roundup. Listen to it, a revelation, I swear.
Secondly we have our very first guest. Catherine Flynn works in advertising and “Loves music/film/beauty/food at all times.” She is also a regular contributor to Beaut.ie and was a brilliant and coherent first guest (unlike the presenters…) Having never met her before in our lives, we were a little nervous to begin with but I think this is our giddiest show yet! I try to keep things serious but I fail.

02m30s Rosemary kicks off our new feature “TV News Round-up” with an appalling theme tune.
04m49s Moving swiftly on except not as we discuss the word segue thus undermining two possibly brilliant segues from one item to the next. We’ll get better, I promise.
06m05s Roseanne watched David Mitchell in BBC’s “Who do you think you are?” and loved seeing one of her former places of study featured, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in the Isle of Skye.
20m44s A fabulous segue “Speaking about women and sex: Catherine?”
20m59s Catherine has been watching Mad Men and has some insights due to her experience in the advertising world. And NO they don’t smoke in the office and drink whiskey from noon.
22m09s Catherine talks about how Mad Men fever has hit the States just before the launch of season one with tie-ins with Banana Republic and Zippo Lighters among others.
23m28s Catherine tells us that fans are tweeting as Mad Men characters. You can follow “Don Draper” like over 8,000 other tweeps! Mind you he hasn’t tweeted much since last December…
24m33s Roseanne exclusively reveals that Germaine Greer inspired Mad Men in her essay “The Middle Class Myth of Love and Marriage”
34m50s Rosemary reviews Channel 4′s (NOT the Beeb’s – woops!) Embarrassing Bodies series wondering could anything be more embarrassing then talking about your inability to pee straight to millions of viewers. Ours is not to reason why, ours is just to laugh and sigh at the shenanigans on the telly. Thumbs up for Embarrassing Bodies for being as tasteful as possible. Unlike my lovely cousin
39m11s A discussion about as Rosemary calls them, em, “lady parts”
41m51s Wrap-up including the embarrassing revelation (no not that kind!!) that I ran out of memory on my digital voice recorder and had to post-record the wrap-up. What a pro! The wrap-up also includes a plea from Rosemary for sponsorship in the form of Sky+ or UPC Digital so that she can have a social life and continue presenting the show by recording programmes. Marketing peeps in tellyland: consider yourselves informed of this fabulous opportunity.
Please feel free to comment below, suggest guests or volunteer yourself.
So a big, big thanks to Catherine, a delight to have finally met her and catch you all again next week!
