The Rosie View Ep. 3: Roseanne gets emotional & Rosemary tells it like it is
In this week’s show we talked about Big Brother (briefly), Ugly Betty, Father & Son, Rachel Allen Bake!, Gerry’s Big Decision, Australia’s Next Top Model and The Enforcers. How on earth does this a coherent programme make? Listen up and be the judge of that.

Show notes:
After we remind viewers that they can now listen and find out more on this our new website we crack on with:
1m15s: A quick Big Brother Update where Rosemary rather carelessly reveals her predictions for a winner. She will rue that day I tell you. I also remind listeners (female ones in particular) that the Wolverine wannabe in BB10 is just that: a wannabe.
2m13s Ugly Betty: I regale the listeners with my own personal Ugly Betty moment and we discuss briefly whether or not UB lived up to the all the hype that surrounded it when first broadcast. Then again looking at this trailer I only have my self to blame for the dashing of my expectations:
We should really have talked more about what Ugly Betty is doing with stereotypes of women but don’t you worry we will definitely get into this anon. I was only planning a rant on my bike this morning…
9m37s Father & Son: While I really wanted this to be good, if only to negate the naysayers who don’t believe anything good comes out of Montrose (RTÉ HQ), sadly it grated and occasionally bordered on the ridiculous. UTV don’t include it in their catch-up player but Episode 2 is available until tomorrow on the RTÉ Player. I forgot to mention that I thought it was interesting that Michael, the father character played by Dougray Scott, referred to the police as Five-Oh at one point and I wonder whether this comes from The Wire or whether this slang pre-existed The Wire? Answers in the comments below please!
14m49s Rachel Allen Bake! While Rosemary was concerned that Rachel’s accent might put her off (I pointed out that giving out about other people’s accents was a bit rich coming from us) she was delighted to discover that she actually really liked her. We also promised a link to Delia’s excellent website. In a confessional moment Rosemary admits she was wrong to judge Rachel and recommends that you try and catch an episode of Rachel Allen Bake!
18m53s Gerry’s Big Decision: This was where things started getting emotional for me. I really enjoyed this programme, mostly because it was so emotional so catch it if you can. It gives the real human and hope-filled side to the current recession.
30m05s Australia’s Next Top Model: Rosemary tells us that she has been catching the Australian format of one of her favourite shows “Next Top Model” on YouTube. She likes it because she thinks the humour in it is the closest to an Irish sense of humour and also because she feels it is the most realistic about modelling as it is today. Not that she agrees with it but she feels that some of the other franchises offer young women false hope. Telling it like it is!
34m09s The Enforcers In a surprise move I also rabbit on about The Enforcers but I did get up at 9am on a Sunday morning to catch up on my telly watching so I was damned if I wasn’t going to review it. A really nice documentary series with some great footage, lovely titles and interesting characters that you can catch on the RTÉ Player too.
40m50s Wrap-up Rosemary promises to talk about some king called Henry and his seven wives or whatevah! Roseanne will talk about Inside Nature’s Giants on Channel 4 if it’s the last thing she does.

5-0 has been around for at least 20 something years, you will hear it on a lot of hip hop records from the late 80s.
Derives from Hawaii 50 I think which was about cops
Roseanne (Jul 17, 2009)
Hey thanks Shane for clearing that up! And there was I thinking Dougray was just trying to up his street cred. He’s still beyond unconvincing as a Mancunian hard man.
Have a great weekend!
